Saving Energy

These tips will hopefully save you energy and save you money on your energy bills around the home.

Don't leave your TV on stanby
When you have finished watching the tv turn it off. If you leave it on standby you are still chewing up electricity.

Unplug your phone charger
You will be surprised at the number of people who leave their charger plugged in even when they stop charging their phone. Turn it off at the point and unplug it. If it is still plugged in it is still using energy.

Turn off the lights
Simply by turning off the lights when you are not using them will save power and save you money on your electricity bill.

Turn off and unplug
Like turning off the lights, by turning electrical appliances off and unplugging them once you are finished with them you will save power and money on your electricity bill.

The beer fridge
How many people have an old beer fridge in their garage? The older the fridge the more likely it is to chew up more energy (they didn't think of energy efficiency back then). If you are not using it then turn off and unplug. Better still recycle it and get a more energy efficient model.

Coldwash
Rather than putting your clothes through a warm/hot wash try doing a cold wash. Clothes will clean up just the same and you are not using valuable power and money heating up the water. It is amazing the difference this can make on your power bill especially if you have a family and seem to be washing all the time!

Dry naturally
Sometimes it is not always possible but if you have a clothes line use it. You will save heaps by drying your clothes outside rather than chewing up valuable energy by using the clothes dryer. If you haven't got a clothes line how about trying a portable clothes airer - great for apartments or for those rainy days.

Boiling the kettle
Boil only enough water for your purpose. The more water you put in the kettle to boil the longer it will take to boil and the more power it is using!

Dishwasher
Only start your dishwasher when you have a full load. Otherwise you are wasting water and energy.

Lights
Install energy efficient light globes. They really do make a difference.
