Living Green

There are many things we can do to live a 'greener life'. Living green will help you health wise and will help the environment - each green step you take reduces the impact you have on the environment.

Reduce your plastic exposure
How did we become a society so engulfed in plastic? Look around your house and see how much plastic you use - containers, toys, shower curtain, remotes, phones, bottles - all made from petrochemicals.

Join me on the plastic free challange and slowly rid yourself of petrochemicals in your household - a healthier life for you and the planet.

Here is a list of things you can do to reduce your exposure to plastic products, BPA and toxins:

  • Use eco bags instead of plastic bags.
  • Swap the plastic bottle for a stainless steel water bottle.
    • Do not reuse single use plastic water bottles.
  • Slowly get rid of your kids plastic toys and switch to wooden toys
    • If you child is having a birthday party, on the invite put "we are a plastic free zone, no plastic toys please".
  • Plant an organic veggie and herb garden.
  • Find alternatives to plastic wrap and alfoil - there are great sandwich and snack wraps made from eco materials, use containers to keep food hot instead of alfoil.
  • Replace plastic food containers with glass containers.
  • Switch to eco products for your baby i.e baby powders, bubble bath and creams can all contain toxins.
  • Switch to eco products for your cosmetics and beauty needs including shampoo and conditioner.
  • Get rid of the plastic shower curtain and replace with a cotton one.
  • Get rid of non-stick, teflon cookare as it made using PFOA's (a toxic chemical linked to cancer and other health issues). Choose stainless steel, cast iron or enameled pots and pans.

I'll keep adding to the list and please put your suggestions in the comment box below. Thanks!
